To the letters editor:
Prohibition never works. It didn't work for alcohol, prostitution, opium, heroin, marijuana, cocaine, tobacco, guns, and now fireworks ("Cops Douse Fireworks Cache," Flatbush Life, July 12). Prohibition usually causes more harm than good. In this case, the fireworks, instead of being sold safely in stores, were being sold dangerously out of a school basement. For an outstanding essay on the great harm caused by alcohol prohibition, go to http://www.cato.org/pubs/pas/pa-157.html. And to read about a 2004 presidential candidate who confronts the failed prohibitionist mentality, go to badnarik.org.

To the letters editor:
Stanley Gershbein is right again (July 12). Candidate Kerry proposes to raise taxes on the "wealthy" (that's you and me in Park Slope, where his great strength lies, and of course himself and his billionaire wife) to provide more taxpayer-funded child care after school hours. If Kerry hadn't been taxing the daylights out of us all these years, far fewer families would need two incomes. Kerry is like the loyal wife who helps you out of all the troubles you would not have had had you not married her.
Visit the web site of the Libertarian candidate for President, badnarik.org, and then vote for the best candidate, not the lesser of two evils.
